On 25/10/2016, Ministry of Planning and Investment in coordination with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) organized a training “Government Officials Training on Eco industrial Parks” for staff of state agencies, organizations and institutions.
The training was held successfully with the attendance of Mr. Tran Duy Dong, National Project Director, Director of Department for Economic Zones Management, Dr. Heinz Leuenberger, UNIDO chief technical advisor; Ms. Tran Thanh Phuong, National Project Manager, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Chuc, Deputy Director of Institute of Regional Sustainable Development, Ms. Vu Tuong Anh, IFC Vietnam; Ms. Le Hoang Lan, UNIDO community experts; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nhan, Vietnam Cleaner Production Centre and more than 50 participants from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Trade and other organizations.
After 25 years of establishment, industrial zones (IZs) in Vietnam still remain an old model. In addition, the industrialization process and development of IZs poses threats to environment and natural resources, which reduces their competitiveness in international market. Thus, construction and transformation of existing industrial zones into eco-industrial parks are the right solutions, ensuring green growth and sustainable development.
The training was divided into three sessions. The first session introduced about orientation for development of industrial park model in Vietnam and eco-industrial park (EIP) model in the world. Speakers in the next two sessions presented about technical and social requirements of EIP and transformation from an IZ into an EIP.
At the end of the training, Dr. Heinz Leuenberger handed over certificates to the participants.
