Dr. Carl VADENBO holds a position as a research associate at the Chair of Ecological Systems Design in the Institute of Environmental Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich, Switzerland. Dr. Vadenbo attained his PhD in 2013 from ETH Zürich on the topic of life cycle-based optimization of physical exchanges in industrial networks. The methods and tools developed within the dissertation support more sustainable use of waste, by-products, and conventional resources in industry.
Remaining at the Chair of Ecological Systems Design, first as a post-doctoral fellow and subsequently as a research associate (current position), his research has been conducted within the IRMAR and the wastEturn projects, funded by the Danish Council for Strategic Research and Swiss National Science Foundation, respectively. Main research areas include the combination of life cycle assessment (LCA) with material flow analysis (MFA) and mathematical optimization techniques to improve waste management, resource recovery and efficiency, and to identify opportunities for sustainable utilization of biomass resources and bioenergy.
