Within the framework of the project “Implementation of Eco – industrial park initiative for sustainable industrial zones in Vietnam” ,on June 1 and 2, 2018, Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) in coordination with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) organized a training “New policy and technical guidelines for Eco-Industrial Park in Vietnam” .
The training was held successfully with the attendance of Mr. Tran Duy Dong, National Project Director, Director of Department for Economic Zones Management,; Mr. Vu Quoc Huy, National Project Deputy Director, Deputy Director of Department for Economic Zones Management; Ms. Tran Thanh Phuong, National Project Manager and more than 30 participants from Economic Zones Management, MPI.
After 25 years of establishment, industrial zones (IZs) in Vietnam still remain an old model. In addition, the industrialization process and development of IZs poses threats to environment and natural resources, which reduces their competitiveness in international market. Thus, construction and transformation of existing industrial zones into eco-industrial parks are the right solutions, ensuring green growth and sustainable development.
The training was divided into three sessions for 2 days. The first session introduced about overview of International framework, International good practice and their learning ; overview of ecological and industrial park initiatives, implementation process – results achieved and project implementation plan in 2018 .Speakers in the next two sessions introduced about new decree 82/2018/ND-CP has been approved by the Vietnamese Government related to Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) in Vietnam
The training course has ended with a lot of comments from the speakers as well as participants. This is a valuable source of reference for the Ministry of Planning and Investment in further improving the legal provisions on Eco- Industrial Park and building a roadmap for the development of Eco- Industrial Park in Vietnam in the future.
